The former Kogi State governorship aspirant, Prince Mustapha Mona Audu – the son of late Prince Audu Abubakar, has said that his movement will go round the country to inform young delegates of the All Progressive Congress (APC) not to vote for any aspirant above 50 years of age except for the position of the party chairman.

Speaking on a tv programme on Sunday, the young APC chieftain said it’s time for the youth to take over and that Mr. President has given them the backing.

Prince Mona who is championing the Progressive Youth Movement which emerged from the Progressive Youth Conference held last week noted that young people who are the “great drivers” of the party and the country at large have not taken key positions at the helm of affairs and that is time to have it corrected.

He said, “We are being supported by the Mr. President of the Federal Republic. He has been critical behind the youth, behind our movement. He has encouraged us to stand out and vie for strategic key positions at the convention. He supported the first-ever youth conference that we had which is the Progressive Youth Conference which was last week at the international convention center and we are taking it from there. We are not seating down, we are not waiting for someone else to hand this to us and it’s simple, it’s time for youth to take over.

“So, any young person listening to this, if you are part of the APC, we require your vote, we require you to vote for people that are young. We don’t want the party to not take cognizance of the young people who are the great drivers, the great engine of the party, and the great drivers of Nigeria but unfortunately, young people have not played any critical role in governance. So, this is an attempt by Mr. President and the younger generation to correct this by taking key strategic positions.”

He added that “We have defined certain age group for the party chairman, for the organizing Secretary, for treasurer and for other critical positions in the party and we are going to go round the entire country sensitizing young people especially those of the APC to vote because the majority of the delegates in the APC are under 50 years old. So, all the delegates will be instructed not to vote anybody above 50 years old except the party chairman.”
