Famous industrialist in Igala land, Mubarak Musa Abubakar popularly called ‘Abuche’ turned the traditional headquarters of the area, Idah, to a carnival city as he held 2021 GYB Christmas Carnival.
The event shot down the ancient town as guests from all walks of life, including eminent sons of Igala land based outside the state accompanied the man for the carnival.
The parade around the town saw many people march round Idah with colourful attires accompanied by music and dance while residents were held spellbound as the troup went round the area.
Many residents joined the train as others took pictures and recorded videos using their mobile phones in admiration of the acts that were on display.
Speaking exclusively to The Graphic as to the essence of the event, Mubarak Musa Abubakar said the essence was to bring unity, joy and love to the people especially during the yuletide.
“The reason we held the GYB Christmas Carnival is to add colour to the Christmas Season which is a period to show love to everyone, appreciate the seanse of sacrifice and unite the people.
“We decided to title it ‘GYB Christmas Carnival’ because of the love I personally have for the Governor, for the peace and unity he has brought to Kogi State since inception of his administration and the way he has engender the need for unity of the state irrespective of our diversity.
“I also titled it GYB Christmas Carnival because I know and believe the Governor would make an excellent President for Nigeria and would want him to be given the opportunity to pilot the affairs of the nation. So, it is our hope that the youth and women inclusion policies of the government could be allowed to be replicated nationwide by Governor Bello.”
The organiser who described the carnival as one that has brought socioeconomic improvement to the area said guests who came in from all parts of the country into Idah have lifted the hospitality business and ensured a boom for hotels and related interests.
He noted that youths and women have been actively engaged by the event, noting that artists from across the country who performed have improved the profile of the town in addition to increase in sales by food vendors and other service providers.
Other people who spoke also expressed appreciation to Mr Abuche for his sense of community, commitment to the cause of Igala land and its development and passion for unity in the area.
Highlights of the Carnival was a the awareness campaign round the town, football competition, and musical performances by international artists which included Face, Styl – Plus, TJ Bala amongst others.
