About a week after the death of the Nigeria army Chief of Staff, President Mohammadu Buhari has appointed a replacement.
The Nigeria military disclosed the development via a statement it issued on Thursday via their official handles on social.
It said that President Buhari has named Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The statement signed by Brigadier General ONYEMA NWACHUKWU who is the Acting Director of Defence Information, reads, “The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
“Before his appointment, Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI.”
